John Porcari Named Port Envoy to Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force

The White House has appointed John Porcari as the port envoy to the Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force, which was created in June.  Porcari, a former Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), is tasked with working with the Department of Transportation and the National Economic Council to "address congestion at U.S. ports," according to the White House.

The appointment comes as news broke that the largest number of ships, forty-four container carriers, remained anchored and waiting for berth space outside of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach on Friday, topping the record of forty previously set in February.

Porcari will work closely with DOT Secretary Buttigieg and the National Economic Council to address congestion at U.S. ports. In a DOT press release announcing his appointment, Porcari stated, “the pandemic has fundamentally disrupted our supply chains which is impacting consumers, workers, and businesses across the country. I am excited to hit the ground running and get to work immediately with industry, labor, and other port stakeholders to address these challenges and to build a more resilient, future-facing supply chain that powers our economy into the future.”
