House Republicans Call on OSHA to Stop Work on COVID-19 Workplace Standard

May 24 every Republican member of the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee signed a letter sent to the U.S. Secretary of Labor, Marty Walsh, urging the withdraw of a pending workplace standard for COVID-19 exposure. Education and Labor Republicans pointed to the increasing rates of vaccinations among workers and the public, as well as the CDC’s updated guidance related to mask-wearing by fully vaccinated individuals as reasons for why a COVID-19 emergency temporary standard (ETS) is unnecessary.

As of May 19, the letter noted that over 60 percent of all U.S. adults had received at least one dose of a vaccine.

As of the date of publication, the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) was still reviewing the pending Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) proposed COVID-19 ETS. OIRA has stakeholder meetings scheduled to discuss the pending OSHA ETS through June 7.
