total distribution, inc. awarded supply & demand chain executive’s green supply chain award for 2021
Total Distribution, Inc. was awarded Supply & Demand Chain Executive’s 2021 Green Supply Chain Award for making sustainability a core part of its supply chain strategy, as well as achieving measurable goals within the company’s operations.
TDI is committed to the areas in which our locations are based: a sustainable environment in which it’s pleasant to live gives TDI a competitive edge in business, it boosts local employees’ quality of life and makes the company more attractive as an employer. Therefore, for example, TDI supports regional growth initiatives in areas including education, health, energy, and transport, alongside a broad range of measures to promote business.
Kate Livingstone, Total Distribution’s Engineering and Sustainability Manager, said that the nature of TDI’s business is such that the company encounters a significant amount of packaging materials coming into its warehouses intended for disposal.
“While we have little options for preventing like material coming to our sites, we can make a difference in where those materials will go,” said Livingstone. “Through efforts like extensive pallet, cardboard, metal, and plastic recycling, we are able to divert the waste that was intended for disposal in a landfill to be utilized in more sustainable eco-friendly ways.”
The company also emphasizes “Ship Green” practices to reduce their trucks’ empty miles by making sure returning trucks have a backhaul shipment. Their sustainability focus saves fuel, reduces pollution, and saves money.
