OSHA Launches NEP to Target Heat-Related Hazards
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched a National Emphasis Program (NEP)to address outdoor and indoor heat-related hazards. As part of the program, OSHA will increase inspections in 70 high-risk industries, including the warehouse industry, on days when the heat index is 80 F or higher.
OSHA compiled the NEP’s high-risk industry target list based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data on heat-related illness and on the prevalence of heat-related fatalities or hospitalizations reported by employers to OSHA. The NEP went into effect on April 8, 2022, and will remain in effect for three years unless canceled or extended.
