OSHA Announces Top 10 Safety Violations for FY 2021

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced its top 10 most frequently cited workplace safety standards for fiscal year 2021. Fall protection accounted for 5,295 violations, respiratory protection for 2,527 violations, and ladders for 2,026 violations. The next most common by descending order of citations were scaffolding, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, fall protection, personal protective and lifesaving equipment, powered industrial trucks, and machine guarding.

OSHA publishes the list each year to alert employers about commonly cited standards so they can take steps to find and fix recognized hazards before OSHA conducts inspections. To view the top violations by industry, use this search tool.
