IWLA Government Affairs

As the resource for warehouse logistics advocacy, IWLA has an active approach to government affairs through a variety of mechanisms.

**The IWLA Government Affairs program serves two primary functions:**

to inform IWLA members about public policy issues that can impact their business, and;
to inform and influence policy makers so they understand the warehouse logistics industry and its role in the supply chain and the broader economy.

Government Affairs Council

A group of active IWLA volunteers monitors, reviews, helps shape, and directs the IWLA response to the most important issues affecting the warehouse logistics industry. To this end, there is an IWLA-retained representative in Washington, D.C., who will testify before congress on pertinent issues, work with regulatory agencies on issues affecting warehousing, and make introductions to members of Congress who hold positions affecting business and commerce.

Warehouse Advocacy Fund (WAF)

To help tell the warehousing story, protect the industry, and highlight warehousing’s broader impact, the IWLA Warehouse Advocacy Fund provides strategic funding for lawsuits, regulatory consortiums, complaint filings, and industry research. The end goal of this work is to enable IWLA to influence and change public policy at the federal, state, and local levels. The WAF is funded by corporate contributions, separate from member dues. Contributing companies directed how these funds are used.

Political Action Committee (IWLA-PAC)

Active engagement in the political process is an important means of protecting warehousing business, employee and shareholder interests. Pooled financial support through IWLA-PAC donations help build relationships with policy makers and keeps the line of communication open regarding current issues. IWLA-PAC contributions must be made by individuals with personal funds. The IWLA-PAC cannot accept corporate donations. PAC funds become donations to candidates – from both sides of the aisle – who are pro-business and who understand and shape laws that impact warehousing.

Legislative Fly-in

All facets of the IWLA Government Affairs Program come together each year during the IWLA Legislative Fly-in. This annual event brings members from across the Unites States to Washington, D.C., for educational sessions on relevant laws and policies that affect the warehousing and 3PL industry. In addition, IWLA helps coordinate visits with congressmen and their staff members on Capitol Hill. These meetings give the warehouse logistics industry a real voice with lawmakers. All members are encouraged to attend this event each spring.
