OSHA Revises National Emphasis Program for COVID-19

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently revised its National Emphasis Program (NEP) for COVID-19 to include updated guidance for inspection and compliance procedures and other enforcement measures. The program was launched to protect employees in industries that possess a higher risk of contracting COVID-19. It identifies industries that hire the largest number of workers in high exposure environments and targets them for in person inspection. Additionally, the program seeks to protect workers who complain about unsafe working conditions from retaliation by employers.

General warehousing and storage is identified as a targeted industry based on an evaluation of inspection and illness data. To review the revised NEP, see DIR 2021-03 (CPL 03).
