Today, Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) President and CEO Eric R. Byer released the following statement on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) revisions to the Risk Management Program (RMP) final rulemaking:
“RMP has a proven record of success, preventing chemical accidents at chemical facilities while improving preparedness, environmental stewardship, and community partnerships across the nation. For years, ACD has raised concerns about the counterproductive nature of the 2024 revisions to this rule and the burdensome regulatory requirements that would be placed on chemical facilities that are already in compliance. EPA’s new proposed changes are welcome news, providing greater clarity to ACD members and lifting onerous, unnecessary, and complex requirements on chemical facilities. ACD members uphold the highest standards of safety and security, and we look forward to working with the EPA to ensure compliance within these RMP standards.”
In May 2024, ACD member Richard Erstad, then Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary for Hawkins, Inc., testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials to highlight the industry’s concerns with the initial changes made to the historically successful program.
