Apply to Participate in Young Driver Apprenticeship Program
The Federal Motor Carrier and Safety Administration (FMCSA) is now accepting applications to participate in its Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot Program (SDAP). The SDAP is a three-year program, created under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, that permits trucking companies to hire and train 18- to 20-year-old drivers for a career in interstate commerce. The program will help trucking companies fill driver vacancies and open promising career opportunities to a greater proportion of the U.S. workforce.
FMCSA is now accepting applications to participate in the SDAP Program and encourages companies who wish to participate to:
Become familiar with the pilot program requirements by reviewing the Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot Program Federal Register Notice;
Register with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Registered Apprenticeship Program
Review internal safety performance data to determine if they meet the standards for participation.
The SDAP Public Information Webinar covers further training qualifications, participation requirements, and instructions about the application process. Motor carriers can apply to participate in the SDAP here.
